Goldbacher Stollen, Underground tunnel system in Überlingen, Germany.

The Goldbacher Stollen forms a network of passages extending 4,000 meters through soft Molasse rock formations beneath the northern shore of Lake Überlingen.

Between June 1944 and April 1945, concentration camp prisoners constructed these tunnels to relocate military production facilities from Friedrichshafen during World War II.

The tunnel complex now functions as a documentation center presenting exhibits about forced labor conditions and preserving the memory of 245 prisoners who died during construction.

The tunnel maintains a constant temperature of 12 degrees Celsius throughout the year, and visitors can participate in guided tours lasting up to two hours.

The French military attempted to destroy the tunnel entrances in 1947, but the high moisture content of the rock prevented complete collapse of the structure.
