Karmelitenkloster Augsburg, Carmelite monastery in Augsburg, Germany
The Carmelite monastery complex consists of two structures: St. Anna and the Holy Sacrament, featuring a three-nave basilica with pillars and gothic architectural elements.
The St. Anna priory, established in 1275 by Bishop Hartmann von Dillingen, served as a religious center until 1534 when it underwent reformation changes.
Martin Luther stayed at the monastery in 1518, where Prior Johannes Frosch welcomed him during a period of religious transformation in Augsburg.
The monastery grounds now house the Protestant Gymnasium of St. Anna, one of the oldest educational institutions in Germany.
The Goldsmith Chapel, added in 1496, functioned as a burial site for Augsburg's goldsmith guild members and remains a testament to medieval craftsmanship.
