Großsteingrab Langeneichstädt, Neolithic passage grave in Langeneichstädt, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
Großsteingrab Langeneichstädt is a Neolithic megalithic tomb with a burial chamber constructed from limestone and sandstone slabs. The site sits roughly 800 meters north of the medieval Eichstädter Warte watchtower near Mücheln.
The burial site was constructed during the Middle Neolithic period between 3600 and 2700 BCE, belonging to the Salzmünde or Bernburg culture. Archaeologists rediscovered this monument only in 1987 during fieldwork.
The statue found here depicts a goddess bearing an axe, a symbol of status and authority in Neolithic times. People of this era believed such figures protected their dead and preserved their standing within the community.
Visitors reach the site by following a field path and will find a replica of the original statue on display. The authentic artifact is housed at Halle's State Museum, where you can view it as part of their collection.
Excavations revealed jewelry made from animal teeth, bone, amber, and copper arranged in multiple layers across the chamber floor. These discoveries show that people buried here had access to valuable materials sourced from distant regions.
