Schloss Bächingen an der Brenz

The three-story rectangular château features four round corner towers, a gable roof, and rising battlements adorned with family coats of arms.

Bernhard von Westernach and his wife Margaretha initiated the construction of this water castle between 1531 and 1534 as their noble residence.

The castle marks a Protestant enclave in a Catholic region, following the religious reforms introduced by the von Stain family who ruled until 1790.

The castle grounds include a natural park, ancillary buildings, and a public footpath along the former castle avenue next to the Brenz River.

The interior preserves an Empire-style renovation from the early 19th century, featuring a black wooden staircase and gothic vaulted ceilings.
