Schloss Bächingen an der Brenz

Schloss Bächingen an der Brenz, Renaissance château in Bächingen an der Brenz, Germany.

Schloss Bächingen an der Brenz is a Renaissance water castle with three stories and a rectangular layout, distinguished by four round corner towers and a pitched roof. The facade features crenellations adorned with family coats of arms, while the structure sits beside the Brenz River.

Bernhard von Westernach and his wife Margaretha commissioned this noble residence as a water fortress between 1531 and 1534. The von Stain family later took control and shaped the castle's development until the late 1700s.

The castle represents a Protestant enclave within a predominantly Catholic region, reflecting religious changes introduced by the ruling von Stain family. This religious distinction shaped the local identity and remains visible in how the place is remembered today.

The castle has a natural park, ancillary buildings, and a public footpath running along the former castle avenue beside the river. Visitors can explore the grounds and walk through the surrounding landscape along the water.

The interior preserves an Empire-style renovation from the early 19th century, featuring a black wooden staircase and gothic vaulted ceilings. These architectural layers reveal how the structure transformed its function and appearance across different periods.
