St.Mary's church Wriezen, Gothic church in Wriezen, Germany
St. Mary's Church is a Gothic structure with three aisles, a rectangular tower, and stands approximately 55 meters long at Wriezen's marketplace. The building combines fieldstone with brick elements added later to the tower and choir.
The structure originated in the 13th century from fieldstone and was expanded with brick to the tower and choir in the 14th century. These building phases show the evolution from early medieval times toward later Gothic style.
The southern chapel holds a wing altar showing Christ, Mary, and John, reflecting the spiritual practices of the local community.
The building has undergone continuous restoration since 1991 and is currently in a reconstruction phase. Visitors should expect possible construction work or temporary access restrictions.
Inside the building is a sandstone grave slab from the 17th century carved in relief showing a historical baptism ceremony. This artwork documents religious practices from past generations.
