Talsperre Zeulenroda

Talsperre Zeulenroda is a large water reservoir in the Zeulenroda-Triebes area with a stone dam stretching 307 meters and rising 35 meters above the valley. The lake offers swimming areas, boat rentals, fishing spots, and walking trails that circle the water.

The dam was built between 1968 and 1975 as part of East Germany's water management and infrastructure expansion plans. The project was created during a period when such large structures were important for energy supply and water use.

The reservoir area hosts summer festivals with music and local food specialties that bring together visitors and residents. On warm weekends, you will find people gathering here to celebrate and enjoy community activities.

The lake is easy to reach and offers swimming areas along the shores as well as boat launches and fishing spots. The walking trails are well marked and allow you to explore on foot, especially pleasant in good weather.

Hidden beneath the water is a 49-meter-high water extraction tower, a technically complex structure built into the reservoir. This concealed feature reveals the engineering work that goes into such dam construction.
