Neuhofener Berg, Urban park in Sendling, Germany
Neuhofener Berg is a public park in Munich's Sendling district built on artificially raised rubble from wartime destruction. The site features green areas, trees, and various recreational facilities including sports fields, a skate park, and children's play equipment.
The site was created after World War II from debris of destroyed buildings that was piled up to form an elevated landscape. This transformation allowed the creation of new green space for the expanding city.
The name comes from a former farmhouse that once occupied this location before the area was redeveloped. Visitors encounter a green space shaped by wartime events and rebuilt at this very spot.
The park is easily accessible on foot with flat and gently sloping paths suitable for different activities. Visitors should note that sports fields are sometimes reserved for teams and parking near the area can be limited.
Two stone structures in the park function as a whisper gallery where visitors can communicate across distance by using the acoustic properties of the curved surfaces. These unusual installations are easy to overlook despite offering an interactive experience.
