Gut Roest

Gut Roest is a manor house in Kappeln featuring two offset gabled buildings in period style, encompassing about 20 rooms across approximately 800 square meters of living space. The estate includes a gatehouse, bakehouse, and cavalier's house with five separate residential apartments.

The estate was first documented in 1231 in King Waldemar's land register and belonged to the Rumohr family from 1498 to 1797, spanning nearly three centuries. This long ownership shaped the history of the surrounding area.

The old knight's hall features a wall painting from 1640 showing a nobleman engaged in falconry, framed by Latin inscriptions. This artwork reveals the artistic and social preferences of that era.

The settlement of Arnis was established after 64 families left this estate and relocated following disputes with estate owner Detlef von Rumohr. This migration had lasting effects on regional settlement patterns and shows how closely the property's history connects to the area's development.
