Amanda

Amanda is a smock mill in Kappeln that rises 32 meters above the town and stands as the largest of its kind in the Schleswig-Holstein region. The structure harnesses wind power to process grain, and today its first floor houses a tourist information office stocked with local regional products.

The mill was built in 1888 and served the community as an economic hub for over 75 years. Operations ceased in 1964 when it was decommissioned after a long period of commercial grain processing.

The third floor hosts a room where local couples and visitors from across the region exchange vows. The space holds personal significance as a gathering place for life's important celebrations.

Visitors can view the building from outside and admire its impressive height and distinctive shape. The information office on the ground floor provides helpful advice and displays local products to explore.

During winter celebrations, the mill becomes a glowing landmark when its sails are illuminated against the night sky. This seasonal lighting transforms the historic structure into a shining beacon that residents and visitors cherish.
