Schifferkirche

The Schifferkirche is a church building in Arnis with a white exterior and pointed steeple, situated near the Schlei fjord in Schleswig-Holstein. The interior contains wooden pews, an altar, and decoration that references the sailing boats and fishing heritage of the region.

The building arose from the need of Arnis's sailors and fishermen to have their own place of worship. Over the centuries, it became the spiritual home of the seafaring community.

The name refers to the boatmen and sailors who once made up the parish and sought blessing before their voyages. Maritime references appear throughout the walls and furnishings, reflecting how seafaring shaped the community's identity for centuries.

The building is usually open during daytime hours and can be entered from the west side. Visitors should expect that regular services take place, at which times the interior is not available for touring.

The interior is decorated with ship models and nautical objects that worshippers left as votive offerings over the centuries. These collections tell of dangerous voyages and storms survived at sea.
