Kloster Dalheim, Medieval monastery and brewery in Lichtenau, Germany.
Kloster Dalheim is a medieval monastic complex with a church, cloister, mill, and smithy set across extensive grounds. The buildings show different architectural styles and are surrounded by gardens that were once working areas for the community.
The monastery was founded in the 15th century as an Augustinian community. After secularization in 1803, it lost its religious role and later became an agricultural operation and then a museum.
The site carries the name of a saint and shows today how monks lived and prayed in these rooms. Visitors still see the living quarters and church where daily community life took place.
The grounds are open Tuesday to Sunday, and visitors can explore the museum and dine at the on-site restaurant. The brewery offers tastings of its beers, which gives a good sense of the site's craft brewing traditions.
The Baroque courtyard at the center of the complex contains several historic rooms, including a brewery cellar with space for about 100 people. This cellar is used today for special gatherings and events, keeping the old brewing tradition alive.
