Harber, District in Soltau, Germany
Harber is a district in the eastern part of Soltau and includes the smaller settlements of Abelbeck, Harber-Moor, Spiekerhof and Tiegen. These villages spread across a wide area crossed by fields and patches of forest.
In 1936, a labor camp was built one kilometer east of Harber for the construction of Autobahn 7. After World War II it was converted into a refugee camp and served to house displaced people.
The name combines Hart and ber, meaning wooded mountain in old Germanic language. This label points to the landscape that has shaped the district for a long time.
The district lies on federal highways B71 and B209, offering good connections to the regional road network. The Soltau-East motorway junction on the A7 is nearby and allows fast connections in all directions.
Until the 1960s, a water mill operated at the mill pond. Street names like Moider Mühlenweg and Dittmerner Mühlenweg still recall this past today.
