Colossos - Kampf der Giganten, Wooden roller coaster in Heide Park, Soltau, Germany
Colossos - Kampf der Giganten is a wooden roller coaster at Heide Park in Soltau. The construction rises to a prominent hilltop and runs through several turns and descents across the park grounds.
The ride opened in 2001 and was considered the largest wooden roller coaster in Europe at the time. After extensive renovation work, it reopened in 2019 under a new name with a completely renewed track surface.
The name references the Colossus of Rhodes and gives the experience a mythological theme. Visitors encounter this framework through design elements along the queue area and during the ride itself.
The ride suits visitors with some appetite for fast-paced experiences and is especially enjoyable in good weather. Queues tend to be longest on weekends and holidays, while weekdays usually see lighter crowds.
The track was originally assembled from prefabricated wooden segments cut with laser technology. This construction method allowed particularly precise assembly of individual sections and sped up the building process considerably.
