Celle Air Base, German Army air base at Celle
Celle Air Base is a military airfield located near Celle in Lower Saxony, Germany. The facility features extended runways, large hangars for aircraft and helicopters, and various operational buildings spread across the grounds.
The airfield was founded in 1934 and initially served as a pilot training site. After World War II, British forces took control and operated it as RAF Station Celle, including during the Berlin Airlift from 1948 to 1949.
The base is not open to the public and is operated by military personnel. Visitors can observe activity from outside the perimeter fence, particularly when helicopters are taking off or landing.
The site played a key role during the Berlin Airlift, when aircraft daily transported coal and food supplies to West Berlin. A monument on the grounds today commemorates this historical effort.
