Herzenbergkapelle

The Herzenbergkapelle is a small octagonal chapel located on a hill overlooking Hadamar, surrounded by residential properties and set within its own grounds. Inside, the building contains a baroque altar and displays historical religious objects along with various inscriptions from visitors.

The chapel was constructed in 1675 and received a new baroque altar completed in 1693 that became the focal point of the interior. The altar houses a medieval wooden sculpture that predates the chapel itself by several centuries.

The chapel serves as a place where visitors and locals leave personal votive tablets and messages on the walls, reflecting how people have used this site to mark important moments. These handwritten dedications create a living record of individual hopes and memories.

The site is best reached on foot, as the paths surrounding the chapel are designed for casual visits and exploration. The grounds include planted gardens with various plant species that can be explored during warmer months when vegetation is most visible.

The hill on which the chapel stands was once known by a different name that possibly referred to a deer enclosure in the surrounding area. This historical place name offers a glimpse into how the landscape was used and named long before the building was constructed.
