Hadamar

Hadamar is a town in the Limburg-Weilburg district featuring a mix of medieval and Baroque buildings. The palace originated in the 14th century as a moated castle, underwent later reconstructions, and together with the churches shapes the town's character.

The town was founded in the 14th century when Count Emich of Nassau-Hadamar received city rights from Frankfurt and expanded the moated castle. It developed into a major administrative center of the Nassau-Hadamar county.

The Liebfrauenkirche displays Gothic forms with painted vaults and wall frescoes spanning medieval to Renaissance periods. In the Baroque chapel, visitors see ornately decorated altars and learn of the tradition of storing princely hearts there.

The town sits on Federal Route 54 and has rail connections linking it to Frankfurt and Cologne. Visitors find parking near the center and can reach most sights on foot.

The Hadamar Memorial marks the darkest chapter in the town's story, when thousands of psychiatric patients died at the clinic between 1941 and 1945. This monument reflects how crucial it is to remember and honor this history.
