Hochbunker Limburg, Above-ground air-raid tower (Winkelturm) in Limburg an der Lahn, Germany

The Hochbunker Limburg is a Winkel-type air-raid tower (Winkelturm) on the WERKStadt shopping centre grounds, built to Leo Winkel's design. Its above-ground concrete tower tapers to a point, and the structure stands on a bed of iron shavings laid to improve shock absorption.

The Hochbunker Limburg was built in 1941 as a Luftschutzbunker of the Winkel type, designed by engineer Leo Winkel, to protect employees of the Reichsbahn-Ausbesserungswerk Limburg from Allied air raids. It stands on the grounds of today's WERKStadt shopping center. To improve shock resistance, the structure was erected on a bed of iron shavings.

The bunker is known locally as the "Winkelturm", after the Winkel type designed by engineer Leo Winkel. Inside, the wooden benches on which people sheltered in 1941 are still in place, and much of the wartime fittings survive. The building is a protected monument today.
