Hörder Burg

Hörder Burg is a castle complex in the Hörde district featuring thick stone walls and a fortified central tower. The structure remains recognizable by its robust defensive elements that stand today.

The site was first recorded in 1198 and served as a residential tower for Knight Albert I. Its purpose changed dramatically in the 1800s when it was converted into an industrial facility.

The location takes its name from the noble family that once ruled the area. Today, cobbled paths and historic walls shape how visitors experience the grounds when walking through.

The grounds are accessible throughout the year and provide good views of the medieval structure from the exterior. Sturdy footwear is advisable since the paths traverse historic terrain.

During a feud in 1389, residents of Dortmund used a drastic strategy to attempt capturing the fortress. They set fire to numerous surrounding villages hoping to force the occupants out.
