Kaiserstraße, Cultural heritage street in Mainz, Germany
Kaiserstraße is a main street in Mainz featuring a green central median with sports fields and decorative paving. It connects the historic old town with the modern Neustadt district while serving as part of federal highway B40.
Architect Eduard Kreyßig laid out the street in 1873 as a new connection between the city center and expanding western areas. It received its current name in 1888 to honor Kaiser Wilhelm I.
The Christuskirche dominates the western end with its imposing structure, showcasing Protestant architecture from the early 1900s. It remains a focal point for those exploring the architectural character of this part of the city.
The street is easily accessible on foot or by public transport from the main train station area. Visitors can use the green median for walking or resting, especially when exploring the route between old and new districts.
The Hans-Klenk Fountain marks the center of the green median and was inaugurated in 1962 during Mainz's 2000-year celebration. It serves today as a meeting point that links historical significance with everyday urban life.
