Hohengeroldseck, Medieval castle ruins in Seelbach, Germany
The stone remains of Hohengeroldseck Castle stand at 517 meters elevation on Schönberg hill, with walls reaching 10 meters in height.
The castle, constructed around 1260 by Walter of Geroldseck, served as the noble family's residence until French forces destroyed it in 1688.
The site holds an annual castle festival each September, bringing together locals and visitors to celebrate its medieval heritage.
A 45-minute walking trail leads from the designated parking area through the forest to reach these freely accessible castle ruins.
The remaining structures feature both a lower castle with outer walls and an upper castle section, providing views across the Black Forest region.
