Mainbrücke Hochheim, Highway bridge in Hochheim am Main and Bischofsheim, Germany

The Mainbrücke Hochheim is a 1,065.60 m long road bridge carrying the A671 autobahn over the Main at kilometre 4.000, between Hochheim am Main and Bischofsheim. It has a 749.60 m prestressed concrete approach bridge on the northern bank and a 316 m steel river bridge with spans of 83 m, 150 m and 83 m. The 25 m wide deck has two lanes and a hard shoulder per direction, plus a shared foot and cycle path on both sides.

The bridge was constructed to connect the two municipalities across the Main. Over recent decades, it underwent multiple renovations to maintain safety and adapt to growing traffic demands.

The bridge carries the A671 between the junctions Hochheim-Süd and Ginsheim-Gustavsburg. Beside it runs the older Kostheimer Brücke of the Umgehungsbahn Mainz, a railway bridge that visitors can see from the shared foot and cycle path on both sides of the motorway.

The bridge carries tens of thousands of vehicles daily and serves as a major traffic hub for the region. Drivers should be aware that renovation work on the northern section is scheduled from 2026 to 2031.

The bridge exhibits signs of stress corrosion cracking in its structure, which has prompted major renovation plans. This makes it an example of the challenges faced in maintaining modern infrastructure.
