Indemann, Observation tower in Inden, Germany
Indemann is a 36-meter-tall steel tower near Inden with twelve viewing platforms connected by 216 stairs that climb to the top. The heights offer views across the surrounding landscape and the transformation of the mining region.
Built in 2009 on Goltsteinkuppe hill, the tower represents a regional development project that marks the transition from industrial mining to a place of reflection. The structure was created as the region moved toward new purposes beyond extraction.
The tower displays how coal mining shaped the area and how the region continues to transform through its exhibition spaces and interactive elements. Visitors learn about the work that once took place here and how the landscape has been reshaped over time.
The tower is accessible by foot along a paved path and has different opening times depending on the season. Visitors should be prepared to climb stairs and wear sturdy shoes for safe access to the upper platforms.
In the evenings, computer-controlled LED lights illuminate the steel facade of the tower in changing colors and patterns. This light display makes the tower a distinctive landmark visible across the landscape after dark.
