Wolfschlucht, Canyon near Zwingenberg, Germany
The Wolfschlucht forms a steep gorge with cascading waterfalls, fallen trees, slippery rocks, and a creek flowing through its narrow passages.
In 1886, hunters tracked and eliminated the last recorded wolf of the Odenwald region within this canyon, giving the location its current name.
The adjacent Zwingenberg Castle hosts annual castle festivals, making the area a center for theatrical performances and musical events.
The 3-kilometer hiking trail through the canyon requires sturdy footwear and takes approximately one hour to complete with 190 meters of elevation gain.
The seasonal erosion power of the creek continuously reshapes the canyon, creating new rock formations and modifying the landscape throughout the year.
