St. Canisius-Kirche, Parish church with modern design in Charlottenburg, Germany.
St. Canisius Church is a parish church with modern design in a residential neighborhood of Charlottenburg. Two rectangular forms of light concrete with minimal glazing create its straightforward exterior appearance.
Construction took place between 2000 and 2002, replacing the previous church that burned in 1995. The Catholic parish has shaped this location since 1921, continuing its tradition with the new structure.
The interior is shaped by Winfried Muthesius's Golden Field artwork, which gives the space a distinctive quality. A Christ figure rescued from the previous building now stands here, connecting the two structures through this meaningful relic.
The building stands at Witzlebenstrasse 30 and offers different spaces for personal prayer and community gatherings. Regular services take place where visitors are welcome.
The organ was installed in 2013 and features 1720 pipes across 24 registers. What is particularly striking is that the bells from 1955 survived the 1995 fire.
