Jagdschloss Prillwitz

Jagdschloss Prillwitz is a Neo-Renaissance building featuring alternating red brick and light sandstone facades decorated with numerous hunting-themed ornaments. The structure displays typical characteristics of late 19th-century castle architecture, with decorative details that reflect the hunting theme throughout.

The castle was built between 1887 and 1889 by Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm II of Mecklenburg-Strelitz as a hunting residence for his son. It replaced an earlier manor house on the same site during a period when princely hunting lodges were symbols of prestige.

The location keeps alive the tradition of noble hunting, which visitors can experience through guided excursions and special game cooking classes. You can understand how the aristocracy once viewed hunting as a central part of their way of life.

The grounds are accessible by forest paths and can be explored on foot, with the surrounding area suitable for longer walks. Visitors should prepare for changeable weather and bring appropriate clothing for woodland areas.

The park grounds feature ancient oak trees, some over 300 years old, which make the site feel like a forest sanctuary. These monumental trees shape the character of the place more than the architecture itself.
