Water Castle Tauchritz

Water Castle Tauchritz stands on oak pilings near Lake Berzdorf and is surrounded by water-filled defensive moats fed from the Priesnitz River. The buildings display baroque features with windows, rooflines, and details that mark it as a significant historical structure in the region.

The castle began around 1306 as part of the Tauchritz manor estate and was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1686. This reconstruction shaped the baroque form visible today.

The baroque facades show French influence and resemble Dresden's famous Zwinger palace. Visitors notice this architectural language while walking the grounds and understand the cultural ties between German and French baroque design.

The castle adjoins Lake Berzdorf's harbor and provides access points for water sports and sailing activities via the Tauchritz port area. Visitors can easily reach the water and nearby leisure facilities in this waterfront location.

After its construction, the castle's water moats were later filled using water from nearby mining excavations, connecting the building to the region's industrial mining heritage. This transformation shows how the castle became part of the landscape's economic development.
