Talsperre Tüngeda/Wangenheim

Talsperre Tüngeda/Wangenheim is a large reservoir in Nessetal that stretches across the landscape with open water and gradually sloping shores. The basin provides different areas for swimming, fishing, and various water sports activities.

The area originally contained a natural lake in medieval times that was later drained around 1700 for peat extraction. The modern dam was then built to refill the area and give it new purpose.

The reservoir functions as a central gathering point for local communities, offering water sports, fishing areas, and camping facilities for recreational purposes.

It is best to explore the area on foot or by bicycle along the various shore paths. Paddling and sailing boats are allowed, while motorized vessels require special permits.

The dam features a crest running about 500 meters in length and spans an impressive vertical distance. This construction makes it a noteworthy engineering achievement for water management in the region.
