Katharinenkirche

The Katharinenkirche features Gothic architectural elements with stone walls, pointed arches, and tall windows characteristic of thirteenth-century religious buildings.

Founded in 1201, this church served as a Dominican convent until 1596 and later became a Lutheran place of worship following the Reformation period.

The church halls hosted gatherings of Meistersinger poets and musicians from 1620 to 1778, gaining recognition in Richard Wagner's musical compositions.

The remaining structure opens for special events and concerts, with guided tours available through the Nuremberg Tourism Office during regular hours.

During World War II, the Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire found temporary shelter within the church walls before its transfer to a protective bunker.
