The synagogue featured Moorish Revival architecture with ornate details, accommodating 935 seats divided between 389 women and 546 men inside.
Constructed in 1874 by architect Adolf Wolff at Spitalplatz, the synagogue replaced earlier structures destroyed during medieval pogroms in 1349 and 1499.
The synagogue opening ceremony in September 1874 brought together various religious communities, demonstrating interfaith connections in 19th century Nuremberg.
The construction required an investment of 46,000 florins and served approximately 300 Jewish families in the Nuremberg region.
Emperor Wilhelm II and Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria visited the synagogue, which contained an organ installed in 1875.
