St. Michael Seminary is a school and manor house in Traunstein built primarily from wood and designed by Anna Heringer's studio. The interior features earth-toned colors with warm textures throughout, small retreat spaces for focus, and shared areas including kitchens and fitness rooms for communal activities.
The seminary was founded in 1929 by Bishop Michael von Faulhaber to train young men from the Chiemgau region for priesthood. After World War II, when the building was temporarily repurposed for other uses, it was restored as a school and continued to evolve.
The building is named after a saint and reflects its religious purpose in daily life. The oratory with its embroidered fabric panels created together with local residents shows how the seminary integrates art and community into its spaces.
