Kirchlein im Grünen

Kirchlein im Grünen is a timber-framed chapel surrounded by ancient linden trees in the Uckermark region near Templin. The small building can be reached by marked walking paths and welcomes visitors for various occasions throughout the year.

The chapel was built around 1700 by Huguenot refugees who settled in this region and established a new religious community. It replaced an earlier church structure whose stone foundations remain beneath the current building.

The chapel reflects the craftsmanship traditions of Huguenot refugees through its closely spaced wooden posts and overhanging eaves that define its timber-frame construction. These design elements tell the story of French-speaking newcomers who settled and built here centuries ago.

The chapel is accessible by marked paths and is used for regular services and special celebrations throughout the year. Visit during pleasant weather to fully enjoy the woodland setting and the surrounding landscape.

The linden trees surrounding the chapel were planted around 1500, predating the building itself by about 200 years. These ancient trees create a natural frame that is older than the religious structure they shelter.
