Miniwelt, Miniature park in Lichtenstein, Germany
Miniwelt is a miniature park in Lichtenstein, Saxony, displaying over 100 scaled-down replicas of famous buildings and landmarks from around the world. The models are arranged outdoors across a large open-air site that visitors can walk through at their own pace.
The park opened in 1999, making it one of the newer leisure attractions in Saxony. Since then, new models have been added over the years, so the site today looks considerably different from how it did at the start.
The park brings together replicas from Europe, Asia, and the Americas, letting you compare how different societies have shaped their built environments. Walking the paths, you can spot how a medieval European cathedral sits just a few steps away from a Japanese pagoda.
The site is entirely walkable, with wide, flat paths running between the models. Weekdays tend to be less busy than weekends, which makes it easier to get close to the replicas and look at them without crowds in the way.
A working miniature railway runs along its own tracks through the model landscapes, adding movement to the scenery. On a water basin elsewhere in the park, visitors can also operate remote-controlled boats, which is something not many outdoor model parks offer.
