Kloster Ilbenstadt, Monastery in Niddatal, Germany

The Kloster Ilbenstadt includes male and female monasteries, with the main basilica featuring Romanesque architecture and Gothic ceiling modifications.

Founded in 1122 by Gottfried and Otto von Kappenberg as penance for destroying Münster Cathedral, construction of the monastery church completed in 1149.

The monastery garden spans 6,000 square meters and maintains traditional monastic cultivation methods for fruits, vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants.

The monastery complex now functions as an educational center, hosting music groups, choirs, and singing associations in the St. Gottfried house.

The Onimus organ, built between 1732 and 1734, remains in near-original condition after multiple renovations throughout its history.
