Keilberg, Mountain summit in Schneeberg, Germany
Keilberg is a mountain summit in the Erzgebirge range near Schneeberg, rising to 559 meters. It features a restaurant and an observation tower from the late 1800s that offer visitors comfort and views of the surroundings.
The summit became a tourist destination in the late 1800s when the tower and restaurant were built. This marked the start of hiking tourism in the area and brought growing visitor numbers to the region.
The mountain connects to the region's mining past, as silver and ore extraction shaped local life for centuries. Visitors can still see traces of this heritage in the landscape today.
The summit is accessible via several hiking trails and offers year-round outdoor activities. Visitors should be prepared for changing weather and wear sturdy footwear.
The observation tower, standing 21 meters tall, reaches views across to the Czech border and shows the Erzgebirge's varied landscape. On clear days, visitors can see far beyond the border and observe how the terrain shifts.
