Kloster Posa, Benedictine monastery in eastern Zeitz, Germany.
Kloster Posa is a Benedictine monastery near Zeitz comprising multiple buildings built over several centuries on elevated ground. The complex features different architectural styles arranged across the grounds alongside outbuildings and planted areas.
The monastery was founded in 1114 and remained active until the 16th century before being dissolved following the Reformation. Its church ruins were later dismantled and the materials reused in the construction of Moritzburg.
The site functions as an educational center where visitors can participate in craft workshops and seasonal events held throughout the year. It serves as a living space where history and practical skills come together for communities to learn and create.
The monastery is accessible by car via highways A9 and A4, by train from Leipzig, or by bicycle via a turnoff from the Elsterradweg cycling route. Multiple access options make it easy to visit at different times and in various ways.
The grounds include a restored historic vineyard from 1998 that connects to a wine route along the nearby Weiße Elster river. This feature links the monastery's past with the region's wine-growing tradition.
