Schönau Abbey in Nassau, Benedictine monastery in Strüth, Germany
The monastery features a Gothic chancel and includes several communal buildings situated within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Limburg in Rhineland-Palatinate.
Rupert I, Count of Laurenburg established Schönau Abbey in 1126, constructing the initial structures including a three-nave basilica between 1126 and 1145.
The monastery maintained its Catholic identity through the Protestant Reformation period while surrounding communities transitioned to Protestant practices.
The monastery grounds now serve the local Catholic parish, providing spaces for community gatherings and religious services.
A devastating fire in 1723 destroyed most of the original structures, leaving only the Gothic chancel as a testament to its medieval architecture.
