Trabrennbahn Mariendorf, Horse racing venue in Mariendorf, Germany.
Trabrennbahn Mariendorf is a harness racing venue in southern Berlin with multiple grandstands and large stable facilities. The grounds form an oval layout providing space for thousands of spectators to watch races from different viewing areas.
This venue opened in 1912 with design by architect August Endell in Art Nouveau style. Publisher Bruno Cassirer rescued it from financial collapse during its first year.
This venue has been a gathering place for harness racing fans from Berlin and beyond for over a century. Regular races draw crowds who come to watch horses trotting around the track, experiencing a specific tradition of equestrian competition.
The easiest way to reach this venue is by taking the U-Bahn to Alt-Mariendorf station. From there, buses M76 or 179 will take you directly to the racetrack on Mariendorfer Damm.
The Kaiser-Endell grandstand from 1913 is the oldest surviving structure and shows the venue's original architecture. Later additions like the glass Robinson grandstand from 1936 create an interesting contrast with modern designs.
