Kloster Tettenweis, Benedictine monastery in Tettenweis, Germany.
Kloster Tettenweis is a Benedictine abbey in Bavaria built in Neo-Romanesque style on the grounds of a former castle. The complex includes a church, residential quarters, workshops, and a kindergarten organized around a central courtyard.
The site originated as a noble residence and was transformed into a monastery in 1797, then formally established as a Benedictine abbey in 1924. This conversion marked the beginning of its role as a religious center supported by the Church.
The nuns use the monastery grounds for daily work and prayer according to their religious tradition. Visitors can sense this active spiritual life while walking through the spaces and experiencing the quietness of the place.
The site is open to visitors who can explore the grounds and purchase handmade products like candles and pasta from the shop. Overnight stays can be arranged if you wish to experience more of the monastic lifestyle.
The Hans Lindner Foundation acquired the monastery in 2018 and continues to support the kindergarten on the grounds. This combination of modern institutional support sustaining an active monastic community is quite rare.
