Klingelpützpark, Public park in Altstadt-Nord, Germany.
Klingelpützpark is a 2-hectare public park in the Altstadt-Nord district of Cologne with sports facilities including basketball courts, table tennis areas, and a skateboarding ramp. The northwestern hill was formed from construction debris of the former prison building that once occupied the site.
The site held Cologne City Prison until 1969, when the facility relocated to Ossendorf. The land was then transformed into a public park, with the terrain itself preserving the physical history of what once stood there.
A memorial stone by Hans Karl Burgeff on the northwestern hill honors over 1000 people who died during prison executions. Visitors can use this place today to remember those who were lost.
The park is accessible year-round and can be reached through multiple entrances from Vogteistraße and Kyotostraße. Its proximity to Hansaring station makes reaching it by public transit straightforward.
The northwestern hill was not built with regular soil but was formed from debris and rubble of the demolished prison building. This unusual construction created a distinctive topography that mirrors the dramatic transformation of the site.
