Elsey Abbey, Premonstratensian monastery in Hohenlimburg, Germany.
The monastery complex includes residential buildings from 1789 with late rococo style features and a quarry stone wall crowned by classical pillars with vases.
Founded on January 17, 1201, Elsey Abbey served as a women's religious house until its dissolution in 1810 during the period of secularization.
The monastery transformed from a Premonstratensian canonesses institution to a house of secular canonesses for nobility women under the guidance of an abbess.
The remaining structures of Elsey Abbey include the Romanesque church and several canonesses houses, which display medieval architectural elements.
The former curia building functioned as the residence of Abbess Amalie Dorothea Elisabeth von dem Bottlenberg from 1776 until 1797.
