Hohenlimburg, Medieval borough in Hagen, Germany

Hohenlimburg is a district on the Lenne river's banks with a castle perched on a hilltop overlooking the surrounding valley. The area blends residential neighborhoods with historic industrial buildings and shows a mixed urban layout.

The settlement began in 1230 when Count Dietrich I of Isenberg built a fortress and established the County of Limburg-Hohenlimburg. This foundation shaped the region for centuries and set the stage for the neighborhood's later growth.

The neighborhood carries on its industrial heritage through working metal workshops and textile facilities that shape its character today. These production sites remain central to how residents and visitors understand the place.

The district is served by Hohenlimburg station with regional train connections linking Hagen to neighboring cities throughout the region. Public transit along the railway provides the best way to explore the area and its surroundings.

Wilhelm Böing left the district in 1868 as a timber merchant and traveled to America, where his son William Boeing founded the aircraft company bearing the family name. This surprising connection to a global corporation often goes unnoticed by visitors despite showing how emigration from this region had worldwide impact.
