Kloster Hillersleben, Benedictine monastery in Hillersleben, Germany

Kloster Hillersleben is a Benedictine monastery in Westheide featuring a Romanesque church with surviving structural elements such as the transept, western crossing supports, and a prominent bell tower. The complex displays layers of construction spanning multiple centuries, reflecting different building campaigns and repairs.

The monastery was established between 950 and 1000 as a Benedictine settlement after Archbishop Gero of Magdeburg initiated its restoration. It endured attacks from Slavic peoples and underwent various modifications to its structures over the following centuries.

The community's name reflects its origins as a Benedictine settlement focused on monastic life and spiritual practice. Walking through the grounds, you can see how the buildings were designed around worship and communal living, with the chapel remaining at the heart of the layout.

The site is located at Freiheit 23 in Hillersleben with the exterior visible throughout the day without restrictions. For interior access and detailed visits, you will need to arrange a guided tour in advance with the property management.

Inside the monastery church stands a baptismal font from 1580 and an organ built by craftsman Carl Böttcher in 1879. These two pieces reveal how the building continued to receive care and improvements through different eras of worship.
