Landscape Formation One, Modern exhibition building in Weil am Rhein, Germany
Landscape Formation One is a modern exhibition building in Weil am Rhein that extends approximately 140 meters in length with a flowing curved form. The structure adapts to the natural hills of the surrounding terrain and brings together exhibition spaces under a unified design.
The building was designed in 1999 by Zaha Hadid Architects for the regional garden festival Landesgartenschau Grün 99. It was created to showcase innovative architecture and environmental thinking at this border region.
The building now serves as a trinational environmental center bringing together Germany, France, and Switzerland on environmental issues. Visitors experience a place where cross-border cooperation on environmental matters is tangible and active.
Visitors can enter the building through a gentle ramp from the southwest side and exit via stairs on the northeast side. The interior layout is straightforward and easy to navigate.
The building harvests rainwater for restroom facilities and meets low energy standards for heating and cooling. These sustainable techniques are woven into daily operations and demonstrate practical environmental solutions in action.
