Schloss Fürstenau, Renaissance castle in Steinbach, Michelstadt, Germany.
Schloss Fürstenau is a moated castle with four round corner towers and a trapezoidal floor plan, set near the Mümling River in the Odenwald region of Germany. The property includes a main building, outbuildings, and tended gardens that visitors can walk through.
The castle was built in the 14th century by Kurmainz to guard the nearby Steinbach Monastery. In the 16th and early 17th centuries it was reshaped in Renaissance style, giving it much of the appearance it has today.
The castle served as an administrative center for the nearby monastery and shaped community life in the region for centuries. This connection remains visible today in how it stands integrated within the village landscape and links to local heritage traditions.
The courtyard and garden areas can be visited during the day without prior planning. Parking is available close to the grounds, making it easy to arrive by car.
An old mill building by the river, once used for minting coins, now produces electricity through water power. It is one of the few examples of a medieval outbuilding that still plays an active role today.
