Kunst-Landschaft, Sculpture garden in Neuenkirchen, Germany.
Kunst-Landschaft is an art project featuring around 40 permanent installations spread across rural countryside near Neuenkirchen and connected by marked routes. The works engage directly with their surroundings, using materials and responding to the flat terrain and changing light conditions.
The project began in 2003 with the goal of integrating contemporary art into the open landscape and bringing cultural activity to a sparsely populated region. It has grown since then as new works by different artists continually expand the collection.
The artworks are woven into the rural identity of the area and serve as gathering points where visitors connect with contemporary creation in a farming landscape. Local and traveling artists contribute to the evolving character of the place.
Spring through fall offers the best conditions for exploring, when paths are dry and light showcases the artworks most effectively. An information point in Neuenkirchen provides maps and guidance on which routes and installations are accessible.
Many works are built from regional materials such as wood or stone that weather over time and transform gradually. This slow evolution is intentional and shows how outdoor art develops its own story in nature.
