Landgestüt Redefin, Horse breeding center in Redefin, Germany.
Landgestüt Redefin is a state stud farm in Redefin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and is listed as a protected monument in Germany. The property includes a neoclassical riding hall, several historic stable buildings, and open training grounds arranged around a central courtyard.
The stud farm was founded in 1812 by Duke Friedrich Franz I of Mecklenburg-Schwerin to supply horses to the ducal court. Through the 19th century, it grew into one of the main breeding centers in northern Germany.
The stud farm is known for its annual stallion parade, where horses are presented inside the historic riding hall and visitors can watch the animals move through their paces up close. Classical concerts are also held on the grounds, using the old stable buildings as a backdrop.
Guided tours of the stables and riding hall are available, and there is a guesthouse on the property for those who want to stay overnight. Wear sturdy footwear, as the grounds are large and much of the visit takes place on uneven outdoor surfaces.
The park on the grounds was redesigned for the 2009 Bundesgartenschau national horticultural show, but the rows of hornbeam trees lining its paths are far older and date back to the estate's early years. Walking among them gives a sense of how the grounds looked when the farm was first active.
