Küppel is a mountain summit near Freienohl that rises to approximately 423 meters and features a modern steel observation tower. The tower provides views over the Ruhr Valley and the forested hills of the Arnsberger Wald.
A wooden tower once stood on the summit as a local landmark but was removed in 2017 for safety reasons due to structural decay. A new steel tower was built as a replacement and is now operated by the city of Meschede.
The observation platform has become a gathering spot where hikers and local residents enjoy views across the surrounding landscape. It serves as a place where people experience the natural beauty of the region together.
The path to the summit is about 2 kilometers long and climbs steadily with some steep sections. Wear sturdy shoes and watch the weather conditions, especially when the ground is wet or icy.
The new steel platform was completed in 2022 and represents a significant upgrade from the previous structure. It accommodates more visitors comfortably and provides safer conditions for extended stays at the summit.
