Laurentius Church, Baroque church in Dirmstein, Germany

Laurentius Church is a baroque church building in Dirmstein with a 34-meter tower that sits on a Romanesque-Gothic base from an earlier period. The interior is divided into two separate worship spaces that function independently under a single roof.

Construction of the building took place between 1742 and 1747 based on designs by architect Johann Balthasar Neumann. Franz Rothermel later adapted these plans to fit local conditions and create a workable solution for the town's religious circumstances.

The church operates as a shared space where Catholic and Protestant congregations worship side by side in separate areas. A solid wall divides the interior, showing how these two communities coexist under one roof without mixing their prayers.

The church sits centrally in Dirmstein and is easy to reach on foot, with parking directly behind the building and more spaces at the nearby Schlossplatz. Visitors can enter from either side and freely explore both worship areas.

The tower belongs jointly to both congregations and serves as a shared element above their divided spaces. This arrangement shows a rare example of how two rival religious communities managed to work together in practical terms during the 18th century.
