Lechtalbrücke Schongau, Prestressed concrete road bridge in Weilheim-Schongau, Germany.
The Lechtalbrücke Schongau is a prestressed concrete road bridge that crosses the Lech valley near Schongau. It carries Federal Highways B17 and B472 and features separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides.
Construction began in 1988 and concluded in 1991. The bridge was built to establish an important connection between Federal Highways across the Lech valley.
The bridge design incorporates five octagonal hollow-section concrete pillars up to 32 meters tall, demonstrating German engineering precision.
Visitors can walk or cycle across the bridge, benefiting from dedicated paths on both sides. The best views of the valley and structure can be enjoyed from the pedestrian walkways.
Sheet pile boxes were driven into the Lech reservoir to establish underwater foundations before concrete blocks were installed. This technique represented a challenging engineering approach for bridge construction of that era.
