Landschaftspark Hachinger Tal, Nature park in Unterhaching, Germany
Landschaftspark Hachinger Tal is a large nature park featuring meadows, orchards, and restored natural areas in the southern Munich region. The site is crossed by the Hachinger stream and offers various zones for sports, play, and relaxation, including a playground, volleyball courts, and open green spaces.
The site was formerly a military airfield purchased in 1997 to become a public park. Transformation began in 2001 under Berlin-based landscape architects Atelier Loidl, who converted the former runway area into recreational spaces with natural habitats.
The park takes its name from the Hachinger Valley, the valley of the stream that flows through it and shapes the local identity. Visitors and residents spend time in the meadows and orchards, while volunteer groups actively care for the traditional fruit trees as part of community stewardship.
The park is easy to explore on foot and has several entry points. Some meadow areas are occasionally closed to protect wildlife, so it is helpful to follow marked paths and pay attention to signs.
The area is home to rare species like the European tree frog and special butterflies that live in the protected meadows. These animals are so sensitive that certain sections are occasionally closed to visitors to preserve their habitat and peace.
